Sri Lanka, as a developing nation, is home to many families who rely on agriculture for their livelihood. In recent years, the widespread use of harmful agrochemicals has contributed to a significant rise in chronic kidney disease and other serious health issues. As a result, countless parents and children living in rural communities have fallen victim to these conditions, placing entire families at risk and disrupting the future of younger generations.
Recognizing this urgent crisis, the Little Hand Foundation has made it a primary objective to safeguard the future of children and their environment through improved access to clean water and educational support.
Kidney disease is one of the most dangerous illnesses linked to contaminated water. To address this, we have launched a comprehensive program to purify contaminated well water in high-risk regions across Sri Lanka. Our initiative focuses on restoring non-potable wells and converting them into reliable sources of safe drinking water. The project is currently being implemented in several kidney disease–prevalent districts, including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya, Monaragala, Wellawaya, Hambantota, Mullaitivu, and Batticaloa.
This life-changing initiative has been made possible through the generous support of both local and international donors who have contributed manpower, resources, and financial assistance. Alongside the water purification efforts, we also extend support to affected families by providing educational scholarships for children, as well as medical and hygiene supplies for individuals battling kidney disease—making this project not only medically impactful but socially transformative.
The project is supported by an international patent and quality-assured through reports issued by the Sri Lanka Institute of Industrial Technology (ITI). It has received significant recognition, including the prestigious Dasis Award, the highest national honor for a project in Sri Lanka, along with numerous international accolades.
Our vision is clear:
“The main objective of this project is to help eradicate kidney disease in Sri Lanka by constructing 100,000 clean drinking water wells in affected regions.”
This mission can only be accomplished through the compassion and support of people who understand the importance of protecting the next generation. Many children who lose their parents to kidney disease are forced to abandon their education and resort to daily labor or exploitation simply to survive. We cannot allow this cycle of suffering to continue these children are the future of our nation.
We invite you to join us in this noble effort. Your support can give a child a clean sip of water, a healthier life, and the hope of a brighter tomorrow.
Project Status: Ongoing since 2018
